That 6 months to a year depends on your athletic ability, people in house hold…so 6 months is a wide girth, but necessary so you can see the minimum/maximum and potential savings in the long run.

Millennial Mania Laundry Detergent:

You’ll need:

  • Box of borax
  • Arm and Hammer Washing Soda
  • 2 bars of Zote or the pre-packaged flakes
  • 1 bar of Dr. Bronner’s Castile Bar soapa in your favorite scent

It’s as easy as placing all these ingredients inside of a sizeable container. We bought a three gallon jug and it filled it about half way.

If you decided to get the zote bars in full, (you get more, for less) you have to shred and shave them into smaller pieces on your own. As well as the Dr. Bronner’s soap. It takes about 30 minutes to an hour for each bar based off of your skill – don’t laugh, but it’s well worth the effort when your clothes are clean, smell good, and feel awesome.

You can use a food grater and choose the side you would use to make shredded cheese. The soap comes out in the perfect consistenty.

Then, pour about a tablespoon for small loads to 1/3 of the detergent into the water for normal to large loads.

During the wash, a 1/3 cup of hydrogen peroxide can act like OxyClean, or if you prefer, just grab a box of OxyClean Free and Clear and apply the directions from the box into each of your individual loads.

Note: Don’t add the OxyClean or hydrogen peroxide into your above base laundry detergent mixture, as it’ll start a reaction that won’t be as beneficial to your in the wash at a later time.

See? Easy peasy. Now you’re on your way Millennial to saving a chunk of change for awhile and your clothes smell wonderful even after the rinse, spin, and dryer cycle.

How do you wash your clothes with, Millennial? How did the recipe go for you? Let us know if it needs improvement or if you have some ideas you like to use with your laundry detergent.
